Greetings fellow archers.
Happy New Year to one and all. I always find the
start of a brand new year
is a great time to reflect back on the past year as
well as plan ahead for the
new one. NETAA had a very successful season in
2000. We expanded
the tournament tour into new areas and, in so doing, made
many new friends.
We expanded the Grand Championship concept at the World
Championship to include
a ladies class and ran our second Championship at the
Middleburgh location.
While I doubt that any three day multiple event archery
championship has ever been
run without a couple glitches, last year's
championship went of pretty
smooth over all!
This year is shaping up to be even better, and I hope all our members are
marking their calendars.
There is a partial list of events listed here, but
there are a lot more planned
at this time that just don't have their final
sanctioning papers in as
yet. We will announce them in future newsletters,
but the best way of keeping
up to date is to check the web site on a regular
basis (www.NETAA.org).
We continue to try to expand the NETAA tour, but we
are about at the limit as
far as events that can be run by NETAA. The
continued expansion must
come from shoot organizers that wish to hold NETAA
sanctioned events as qualifiers
for the Championship in their area. While we
are looking for locations
all the time to expand the tour into new areas, we
will not allow the sanctioning
of two events so close together that they will
compete with one another.
If any of our members knows of an area that is not
covered, and a shoot organizer
that might be willing to hold a qualifier, then
please contact the office
with the information so we can send a sanctioning
request package along.
We are looking for State level qualifiers in central
and western PA, Maryland,
Delaware, Central and western New York, and central
Maine to complete the tour
in the eleven state region. We are also interested
in expanding the tour to
States outside the region with one good 3D and one
good target championship
in as many States as possible.
NEW ENGLAND INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP-
The first tournament of the new year is
coming up fast! The
NETAA New England States Indoor Championship (450 Round)
will be held at Tepee Archers
in Acton, Mass. the weekend of Jan. 20-21.
There will be scheduled
line times on both Saturday and Sunday, with the
awards given out at 4:00
PM Sunday. It will be possible to register at the
door, but lines are limited
so it is recommended that you pre-register to
avoid disappointment.
Call the office for a registration form if you do not
get one in the mail in time.
INDOOR EVENTS- There are
other indoor events planned to make qualification for
the 540 Championship possible
closer to home. The Central New York Indoor
Championship will be held
at Hidden Valley Archery on March 17 in Smithville
flats. This will be
a standard 450 round and they will have a few line times
on Sunday to accommodate
as many people as possible. Pete Lucas is planning a
450 qualifier in conjunction
with the Albany Sports Show in March, and there
are tentative plans to hold
450 rounds this winter at several other locations.
As soon as the sanctioning
forms are in and approved we will get the details
posted on the web site.
INVITATIONAL ELIMINATION
ROUND- This was announced a few months ago as a
potential new game to draw
the money shooters out to a few NETAA events. The
plan is still on the drawing
board pending some interest from the top archers.
The tentative plan
is to hold the first one in conjunction with the first leg
of the New England Triple
Crown in Brattleboro. The second would be with the
second leg of the New York
Triple Crown in Gilbertsville, and the third with
the third leg of the Southern
Triple Crown in Lincoln Park, NJ. We are
putting an invitation list
together at this time. If any of our members would
like to get on the list,
they should contact the office ASAP. We will open it
up to non-members as well,
but their invitations will mail a week later than
our members will.
Anyone wishing to compete in these events should call in
their names to the office
ASAP.
NEW ENGLAND TRIPLE CROWN-
This will be the sixth consecutive season for this
championship mini tour!
The first leg will again be held at Sportsmen's Inc
in Brattleboro, Vermont
(April 21-22). The second leg will again be at
Monadnock Rod and Gun in
Jaffery, New Hampshire (May 19-20). We plan to run a
540 qualifier in conjunction
with the second leg as a final qualifier in the
New England States for the
540 Championship at the World Games. The third and
final leg will be in Groton,
Ct. on June 24. This will be the first year that
any triple crown event will
run on only one day, so mark your calendars and do
not show up on Saturday
expecting to compete!
NEW YORK TRIPLE CROWN- This
is the third season for this mini tour, and the
second season where all
three host sites are the same. This tour is settling
in to be a well established
successful series of events that everyone enjoys.
It kicks off the weekend
of April 14-15 at Ti-Yogi Bowmen in Hyde Park. This
date has changed a bunch
of times so be sure to mark it down once and for all.
Most recently, we
announced it as the weekend of April 28-29, however the
organizers of the Atlantic
City Tournament moved their dates this year to that
weekend, and we did not
want a conflict. A week later would have put us into
opening weekend of spring
turkey season, and a week earlier would have
conflicted with the first
leg of the New England Triple Crown. I know its
Easter weekend, but it's
the only weekend left. I hope that our church going
members will either shoot
Saturday, or go to early Mass and see us late
morning Sunday. The
second leg is at Gilbertsville on June 9-10.
Gilbertsville is a great
club with amazing courses, if you did not make it to
this shoot last year, do
not miss it again! The final leg is at Archery
Connection in Middleburgh
on July 28-29. The "Last Chance 540 Qualifier" will
also be held in conjunction
with the third leg, giving everyone one last
chance to qualify to shoot
the 540 round at the Championship. It also gives
everyone an opportunity
to shoot the round on the same field as the
Championship.
SOUTHERN TRIPLE CROWN- This
will be the first year for this mini series and it
is not completely organized
at this time. The first leg will be at
Obissquasoit Archers in
Alloway, New Jersey on March 31-April 1 weekend.
Obissquasoit has a great
club and several good courses that everyone will
enjoy. They are in
South Jersey giving archers in Maryland and Delaware an
opportunity to qualify for
the championship close to home, and getting all
those avid tournament archers
in South Jersey a chance to participate in the
tour. The second leg
will be held June 23-24 at a location to be announced in
either Eastern PA or central
New Jersey. We are trying to make arrangements
with a few clubs in Eastern
PA (our preferred location), but making contact
during hunting season has
proven difficult at best. The final leg will be
back at Lincoln Park, New
Jersey on July 7-8. We held the New Jersey State
Championship at this club
last year and they did a great job.
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS- as mentioned
above, there is room in the schedule/tour
for a number of State level
championships in both 3D and target games (indoor
and outdoor) at this time.
We encourage shoot organizers to contact the NETAA
office to make arrangements
to get in the schedule. In the meantime, our
friends at Hidden Valley
Archery in Smithville Flats have their sanctioning
papers in for a State level
3D Championship/qualifier on May 19.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP- The World
Championship Games will once again be at Archery
Connection in Middleburgh,
New York on August 23-26. More information will
follow in future newsletters,
as the time gets closer.
There you have it, the tour
schedule as it stands mid December 2000. There is
not room here for all the
details on each shoot. Registration forms will be
mailed in early January
that will have all the details of each shoot. Each
shoot, with complete details
will also be posted on the web site soon.
Looking forward to seeing
you all on the tournament trail.
Good shooting,
Roy Goodwin
