JULY NEWSLETTER
Greetings archers. I understand from Dan Hendricks that we will
all be
treated to a four color format of North American Bowhunter with this
issue.
As the organizations using this magazine grow, so does the circulation.
With
increased circulation comes increased advertising support, which allows
for
growth in pages/content and improvements in other areas (like four
color
process). I for one wish Dan all the success in the World, and
like the rest
of our members look forward to benefiting from that success by having
a bigger
and better magazine to enjoy every other month. For all our new
members, Dan
and staff have been doing a great job on our newsletter and the whole
publication for over a year now. Welcome aboard!
TOURNAMENT TOUR-
The 2000 qualifier tour is in full swing as of this writing, however
it will
be winding down by the time you read this column. Thus far we
are on track to
qualify a record number of contestants for the annual championship.
This due
largely to the fact that the tour has reached out to Western New York
and
south to New Jersey.
The New England Triple Crown has been hammered with bad weather so far
this
season which has kept the numbers down somewhat. We've been fortunate
to have
had great host sites that have set up good courses and extended warm
hospitality. Both Brattleboro (Sportsmen Inc.) and Jaffrey (Monadnock
Sportsman) have stepped forward offering to host the tour again next
season.
We've accepted and are finalizing dates at this time. The Third
and final leg
will be over before you read this and I'll report on the conclusion
next
issue.
The Eastern New York Triple Crown has been great fun so far. The
first leg
was at Ti-Yogi Bowman in Hyde Park. This was our first event
at this site,
but it won't be our last! The crew at Ti-Yogi did a great job
and have
invited us back. The dates should be set by the next issue.
The second leg
was hosted by Gilbertsville Rod & Gun. I can honestly say
they set up the
finest 3D archery course I've ever seen! The course was "long",
but it is a
"championship" and with the known distance and clean shooting lanes
everyone
had a great time. The archery committee expressed an interest
in having us
back next year and will be putting it to the board next month.
Cross your
fingers, the Ti-Yogi, Gilbertsville, Middleburgh combination is unbeatable
for
a "first class" championship level triple crown.
The Central and Western New York Triple Crowns are running later and
have just
begun. More on them next issue.
NEW WEB SITE
If any of our members haven't checked it out yet, its time! Bookmark
www.NETAA.org and check it out at least once a week. There will
be regular
upgrades until the entire site is up and running, although there is
plenty
there to start the ball rolling. We've had requests for 3D rules;
they are up
at the site and can be downloaded/printed for your use. The last
year's worth
of newsletters are there for our new members to enjoy as well as our
shoot
schedule, information on what NETAA is all about, and an interesting
thought
process on building the tournament tour into something we'll all be
proud of.
Check it out, and then refer your friends to help spread the word.
Before you
get this issue the shoot schedule should have links to more information
about
each event (including scores after the event), the classes should be
well
defined, the Bowhunter Proficiency Round should be completely explained,
and
all the information about the Championship should be up. There
will be even
more to come, with the goal being to make this site one of the best
and most
interesting archery/bowhunting sites on the internet.
GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP
This is the last issue before the annual Championship. Hopefully
all our
members will have qualified and received your invitation package in
time to
register. This year's event looks to be the biggest and best
ever (and we've
had some great ones!). There will be a number of events going
on throughout
the four day event as well as several ways to get involved in "extra"
programs. I can't go into detail on everything here but want
to give a brief
outline so no one misses anything:
Championship 3D: Every archer "must" qualify to earn an invitation
to this
part of the event. Qualification is earned by placing in the
top 20 archers
in your class at a NETAA sanctioned qualifier. If you (or your
friends)
haven't qualified yet, get going! The 3D Championship is a three
day event
(mandatory) with 20 targets shot both Friday and Saturday. The
top five
archers in each class after the first two days of shooting will advance
to the
final 20 target round on Sunday. The finals will be a "shot gun"
start with
each group made up of the top five archers in the class. All
contestants
start fresh on Sunday ( the semi-final scores do not carry forward),
and the
finals are shot in the open for the spectators enjoyment! The
winners will
get awesome trophies and cash (adult classes only) awards (based on
a
percentage of accumulated shooters fees for the season. We will
recognize
both Open and Money Divisions.
Championship 540 Round: Everything is the same as the above except
each
archer will only shoot one 60 arrow round to determine their standings
(except
in the case of ties). The 540 round will be shot during specific
times during
four days and there are limited line positions available (first come,
first
served). The will be one line on Thursday at 4:00 PM for those
that want to
get the target event out of the way before starting the 3D event.
There will
be lines (morning and evening) on Friday and Saturday, but the 4:00
PM line on
Saturday is reserved for the Money Division (all archers competing
in the
division "must" shoot this line). There will also be a line Sunday
morning for
tournament archers that are not competing in the 3D Championship and
want to
come only Sunday.
Grand Championship: The Grand Championship is awarded to the archer
in the
Money Division that turns in the highest aggregate score in both the
3D and
540 Championships. There is no additional registration fee involved
and the
winner will receive a custom jacket, a very special trophy, and a bonus
check
for $1,000.00 (guaranteed courtesy of Northern Building Systems!).
You must
qualify and compete in both the 3D and 540 Championships to be in the
running
for this award.
Team Championships: This year the team events are being extended
to all
competitors in the 3D Championship (Open as well as Money Divisions).
There
are two team divisions, Open and Mixed. All teams are made up
of three
archers. The open team event is any three archers, while the
mixed teams must
have a M-FS, M-BFS, and F-FS archer. Team registration is $75.00
($25.00 per
team member) with 100% payback. The first place team in each
division will
receive a $250.00 bonus in addition to their percentage of the purse
(courtesy
of Pete Rickard Game Calls). Each team will earn semi-final points
based on
the aggregate scores of the team mates during the 3D Championship (Friday
and
Saturday). The top five teams in each division will advance to
a 10 target
final round on Sunday for the enjoyment of the spectators.
Aim For College Tuition Program- College Tuition Voucher Certificates
will be
awarded to the top young archers in both the 3D and 540 Championships
(in
addition to huge trophies!). The amounts will be determined by
total funds
raised and the number of contestants. The Certificates are redeemable
for
direct payment to the school of choice after graduation from high school.
(note: Thus far NETAA/AFCF had awarded over $13,000.00 in Certificates.
Bowhunter Proficiency Round: This will be a 30 target 3D round
shot at
unknown distances. Scoring is 10,8, minus 5, with each contestant
able to
take an announced "pass" at every target (zero score). Awards
are based on
individual scores. Everyone can win and everyone can compete!
There are no
pre-qualification or pre-registration requirements. Awards (patches)
are
earned by shooting minimal scores. There are five levels of achievement,
with
the ultimate goal being "Master Bowhunter" (275 points). This
round is great
fun, inexpensive to shoot, and designed both for additional practice
for
competitors and an opportunity for "everyone" to come to the championship
and
take part. We need all our members to encourage their friends
(especially
those bowhunters that aren't that "competitive") to come to the championship
and at least take the Bowhunter Proficiency Challenge.
That's it, there will be something for everyone, and lots of shooting
for most
of you! It is important that we get as many numbers out this
year as
possible. That is why I encourage everyone to bring at least
one friend that
hasn't qualified (and get all your friends qualified if possible).
The amount
of sponsorship we get from Corporate America next season will be directly
proportional to the turn out at this year's event. We can have
bigger and
better championships, with more prize money, and media coverage, if
"we" grow
the numbers. Let's all pull together and make the NETAA Tournament
Tour the
biggest/best in the country.
Good shooting,
