MAY 2000 NEWSLETTER - NETAA
Greetings fellow archers.
Spring is finally here, and with it has come an
abundance of April showers.
The weather has been real unfriendly to the 2000
NETAA Tournament Tour thus
far. The Mass State Indoor Championship was
treated to blizzard conditions
all weekend and the first leg of the New
England Triple Crown fell
on a rainy Easter Weekend. Attendance has been
down, but the excitement
level is rising. Read on.
New England Triple Crown - 1st Leg/Brattleboro
Based on the number of calls
and pre-registrations, it appeared we were going
to set a new attendance
record for a New England event, then the rains came.
And did they ever come!
Actually Brattleboro didn't get that much rain. We
had steady drizzle Saturday
morning with three quick showers for good measure.
By late morning everything
stopped except the cloud cover. Sunday started
with a very light drizzle,
but it cleared by 9:00 and turned quite nice (no
sun, but no bugs, wind,
or rain).
The big problem with the
rain was not at the shoot, but everywhere else. The
entire coast got 3-5 inches
Saturday and much the same Sunday. This was
enough to keep all but the
real "die-hards" and locals at home. We did see
some old friends, and made
a lot of new ones, signing up six new members in
the process. The scores
will be posted on our new web site (see below). As
usual the guys at Sportsmen
Inc. did a great job on the courses with nothing
but rave reviews from all
competitors. Everyone that stayed home missed a
great shoot! The club
has agreed to host us again next season as well as
requesting permission to
hold a sanctioned Bowhunter Proficiency Round later
on this summer. They
are also interested in hosting a 540 qualifier in
combination with the 3D
round during next season's Triple Crown (more on that
in a later issue).
SOUTHERN TRIPLE CROWN-
The planned Triple Crown
for New Jersey and PA has been postponed until 2001.
We just weren't able to
make the final arrangements with three host sites in
time to get flyers printed
and mailed. To kick off the mini tour for next
year we will hold the first
NETAA NEW JERSEY STATE 3D Championship this summer
(see schedule). This
club will be the host site for the third leg of the
Southern Triple Crown next
season. We are very close to finalizing the other
two host sites and hope
to have dates committed by this year's Championship.
NEW YORK TRIPLE CROWNS-
That's right, "CROWNS"!
We have a full 3D schedule in New York State for this
season. There are
three separate triple crowns (Eastern, Central, Western) to
bring the NETAA tournament
tour close to all serious archers in the State.
There is also an Indoor
Winter 3D Qualifier to kick start the program the last
week of April. NETAA
has George Ferrell to thank for the hard work it took to
put the Central and Western
mini tours together. Good work George!
In addition to great coverage
in New York, several of the host sites are close
to the PA border which will
make qualification more convenient for the archers
across the State.
The tour won't be complete until we have a few qualifiers
in PA, Maryland, and Delaware
to cover the entire eleven State region. The
plan is to keep pushing
south and west over the next two years. As always, if
any of our members knows
of a good potential host site in a new area, give the
office a call.
NEW ENGLAND INDOOR 450 CHAMPIONSHIP-
The Mass State Indoor Championship
that we've held the past five years at
TePee Archery (Acton, Mass)
is being expanded for next season. It will become
the NETAA New England Indoor
450 Championship and be held Jan. 20-21. It will
be the only indoor target
qualifier in New England next season. Those that
plan to compete in the target
(540 Round) games at the 2001 Championship (a
requirement to enter the
Grand Championship Award program), and want to
qualify in New England should
mark their calendar now. The only other
possibility to qualify in
New England may be a 540 round held in conjunction
with one leg of the NE Triple
Crown (but this is just in the planning/hopeful
stage).
SPONSORSHIP-
With the flyers now mailed
our efforts are turning to increasing tour
sponsorship support.
We've already had great success, and we're just getting
started:
Northern Building
Systems….$1,000.00 guaranteed bonus prize for the 2000
NETAA Grand Champion (note:
Northern donated $1,000.00 last year to kick this
program off and is supporting
us again.).
Pete Rickard Game
Calls…..$500.00 guaranteed bonus prize for the first place
teams in the second annual
NETAA Team Championship ($250.00 for each of two
divisions).
Muzzy Products…..$500.00
sponsorship of the Aim For College Tuition
Certificate Program.
This money will be set aside with all other funds raised
for this purpose to back
College Tuition Certificates that will be awarded to
the top young archers at
this year's Championship. (note: last year we awarded
$1,750.00 to the youngsters
bringing the total awarded in the last four years
to over $12,000.00.)
WEB SITE-
By the time you get this
newsletter NETAA will have their very own dedicated
web site. The new
site will give us more room to include rules, schedules,
score results, news, sanctioning
information, and services for our members.
The web address is www.NETAA.org.
We will get a few pages up at a time, so
keep watching as the site
develops. Soon we will be offering members
pre-registration on line,
special NETAA merchandise, and a lot more exciting
things.
AIM FOR COLLEGE FUND RAISING-
Its that time of the year
again! Time to ask everyone to consider pitching in
to help raise funds for
the College Tuition Certificates that will be awarded
at the World Championship.
Last year we awarded $1,750.00 which was good, but
our goal is $5,000.00 per
year. There are a lot of ways to help! Of course,
checks from cash sponsors
(like Muzzy above) are the fastest way to get the
program funded. No
amount is too small, and we except donations from
everyone. There are
other fund raising ideas that also help. Raffles are a
great way to raise additional
funds, and we will continue last year's practice
of raffling donated items
at each NETAA run event. We could use more items
for these raffles, especially
bigger ticket items like bows and arrows. We
will hold both a hunt raffle
and merchandise raffle at the championship again
this year, and are always
looking for donations to help those projects.
Donations of larger items
to be used in a silent auction at the Championship
is another thought that
works well. All the above programs will be run by
NETAA with the help of our
sponsors and with the generosity of our members who
will be purchasing the tickets.
In addition, clubs, shops, and even
individuals can get together
to do car washes, bake sales, novelty shoots, and
numerous other fund raising
projects. Remember, no donation is too small, and
we have a long way to go.
Good shooting.
