Greetings Fellow Archers
Greetings
fellow archers. I am finding it very difficult to get this column started!
The Championship is just around the corner and there is sooooo much to
do, and so little time left! My construction business is in full tilt and
I'm working long days trying to keep up, but not succeeding. Hunting season
is right around the corner, and all the scouting I've put off all year
is starting to worry me. With all that on my mind it's very difficult to
concentrate on this column. Sorry.
'99 CHAMPIONSHIP
Final preparations are done as I write this column. We'll have a great
shoot August 20-22 in Middleburg, and none of our members should miss it!
In addition to the Championship 3D and Target (540) events, there will
be a 30 target Bowhunter Proficiency Round shot at unmarked distances.
This round can be shot as many times as you like ($10.00 per round) and
there is no pre-qualification requirement. The idea is to offer all the
competitors some additional practice, give non-qualifiers a chance to participate,
and raise a few more dollars for the Aim For College Foundation.
We'll also have our first ever team events and award the first annual
'GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP' title. The Grand Champion will receive a very special
trophy, a custom NETAA Grand Champion Jacket, and a check for $1,000.00.
Our friends at Northern Building Systems, to provide a little additional
enthusiasm for the Championship this year, donated the cash prize. I hope
all our members remember to contact Northern Buildings if they hear of
anyone that might be in the market for a new commercial, industrial, or
recreational building. If Northern gets some good leads we'll be able to
count on them again next year, and God only knows we need all the support
we can get as an industry/sport. To contact Northern Buildings call 1-508-278-9382
and ask for Bob Fisette. Remember to tell him you appreciate their support
of the NETAA tournament tour!
AIM FOR COLLEGE PROGRAM
We are bringing back the Aim For College Tuition Voucher program at
the Championship this year. Due to the generosity of Robelle Industries
(who donated $1,000.00 this year) we will be able to give away over $1500.00
in college tuition vouchers to the young archers at this year's Championship.
Muzzy also donated cash and prizes for our fund raising raffles. Other
product sponsors were Pro Release, Wildlife Research, Hidden Valley Archery,
and Archer's Advantage. Thanks to one and all. Pete Lucas also played an
important roll in the fund raising efforts through his organization of
a clothing raffle last fall and the bison target raffle that will be drawn
at the Championship. We've decided to give a $100.00 certificate to any
class that has a young archer in it. We'll give an additional $50.00 per
archer in each class (after the first one), so the total amount distributed
in each class will be determined by participation in the class. Based on
pre-registrations to date, I expect the total amount of certificates to
be in the $1700.00 range. Nothing would make me happier than to see three
times as many youngsters and give three times as much tuition assistance!
Lets all work on getting more youngsters out next season.
NY TRIPLE CROWN RESULTS
This was the first year for the NETAA NY Triple Crown, but it won't
be the last! The reception among the archers of New York was great. We
made new friends at every one of the events and look forward to bigger
and better shoots next year as this part of the annual NETAA tour gets
better known.
To win a Triple Crown award an archer must compete in all three legs
(events) making up the mini tour. From those archers that compete in all
three, we select the first, second, and third place finishers in each class
by total accumulated scores. |

HUNT RAFFLES
We will be giving away three great hunting trips at the Championship
this year. All three were provided by the generosity and support of Bill
Harris' FORT MUSSELSHELL OUTFITTERS. Bill donated two trophy bowhunts for
antelope and one spring turkey hunt at his ranch in Montana. One antelope
hunt is to be used as the Annual NETAA Membership Drive Hunt Raffle prize,
and will be given to one of our members at the championship by a random
drawing. Every member has his/her name in the box once just for being a
member! Each member that signed up another member this year (and wrote
his/her name on the membership form marked "sponsor") got his or her name
in again. Some supporters who helped us sign up lots of new members this
year got their name in the drawing a dozen or more times!
The second antelope hunt and the turkey hunt will be used to raise additional
money for the Aim For College Program. We'll have a separate raffle just
for that purpose at the Championship. Tickets will be $5.00 each and everyone
can buy as many as they like! Remember, all proceeds go to fund the Tuition
Voucher Certificates at the Championship to help our young archers pay
for their future educations. Besides helping the kids, wouldn't it be great
to get a $2900.00 trophy hunt for $5.00????
I've checked into the hunts Bill offers and am so impressed that I've
booked a hunt for myself (yes I'm paying for that hunt!) next year. I've
put the hunt together so that a few NETAA members can join me if they want.
The hunt will be for five days (you can extend it with prior planning)
and can be set up as an antelope hunt, a deer hunt (whitetail or mule deer),
an elk hunt, or a combination of any two. There are various prices depending
on the number of days and how many species you want to hunt. Anyone interested
should call me for the details and a brochure. Last year Bill took ten
bowhunters for elk, they got six bulls and five made the record book! The
antelope on his ranch grow horns in the 15-16 inch range! He takes a very
limited number of hunters each year and specializes in bowhunting.
NEXT MONTH
In our next column I'll share the exciting results of the fifth annual
NETAA World Championship. Until then enjoy the upcoming archery season,
but be safe.
Good shooting, Roy Goodwin |
